What is it?:

Soapstone is a metamorphic rock largely composed of the mineral talc and has been used for thousands of years as a marker used by seamstresses, carpenters, and other craftsmen.

Why is it useful?

  • It is resistant to heat; it remains visible when heat is applied
  • Its marks are visible but not permanent
  • It can be washed off when rubbed with water
  • It is the perfect choice for writing on slate.
